From the Head Comix I bought at age 12 to Weirdo, I grew up on Crumb and think he is a great artist and observer. I agree with Hughes' assessment that he is a modern-day Hieronymous Bosch. I bought this thinking that it would bring together a huge array of some of my favorites, which were in disparate underground mags that I have lost over the years.Unfortunately, the assortment of stories here is almost entirely derivative, spinoffs from the great stuff that are cheap commercial retreads. Yes, Crumb does recycle many of his jokes (a necessity, I suppose, given the need to churn it out) and a lot of it is second rate at best. For example, his My Troubles with Women (the Zap original) is one of the funniest things I have ever read, a masterpiece of misogyny and satire that is second to none. In this volume, you get My Troubles with Women part 2, which simply cannot match the original. That is the case for most of the stories, which are just weirder and more exaggerated and grotesque than the better ones he did earlier, elsewhere. Then, there are many off-the-cuff sketches as filler, which also add very little.I cannot recommend this collection, except to the hardest core of Crumb devotees.

Gorgeous, accessibly-priced collection of Mr. Crumb's devotion to "Big, Fahn Legs" and Jutting Posteriors... of course, not all-inclusive (we'd need a several thousand page multi-volume collection) of the vast range of Crumb's lusts, depravities, and fetishistic obsessions - but this is a nicely packaged over-view of the man's psychosexual compulsions, committed to paper in comic-strip and single page drawings. Thanks to Taschen and Ms. Dian Hanson for bringing this fun-filled volume to the masses.

Nice collection of Robert Crumb comics, much of it in color. The paper is of the absorbent variety, which works best for reproducing comic art colored in flat colors. I wouldn't have included the 40 some pages of the Championship Wrestling, which isn't as sexual as one would wish, but overall, a good selection of his work, old and new.

Great design, choice of paper stock, and coloring of the strips, which originally appeared in black-and-white.A bargain of a price too. Taschen--and R. Crumb--strike again. A masterful volume of comic art.

I was not buying the $500 plus edition, thank goodness they made a mere mortals edition. Well drawn stories, of course Crumb did so much sex stuff some of your favorites might be missing, but well worth it nonetheless.

Taschen and Robert Crumb together? Unbelievable, and that's exactly what this volume is, rich in color and otherwise unavailable stories. This is a massive compendium of one of the greatest artists of the last half a century. With a pulled, surprise print enclosed in it's own bound sleeve, this is truly a collector's item, but don't save for resale, open and enjoy. His work delves into not only his own obsessions and insecurities, but is one of the most insightful individuals rendering on paper the human condition. More often than not, it is right on cue and right on track. Slipcassed, signed, numbered and set in it's own private corrugated packaging, this is one volume absolutely not to be missed. But, you better hurry, only 1,000 copies were set for sale along with 200 artist's proofs set aside, so it won't be available long. The print enclosed, original art quality! Not a detail was missed. While most people regard R. Crumb as a rather strange, kinky and sexually 'hung-up' eccentric graphic artist of the 60s/70s era, he is in fact both a considerably gifted artist AND reflectively intelligent human being. While many leftist liberal progressives today regard Crumb as an archetypal 'sexist pig', in actuality R. Crumb lays the biological facts of gender realities on the line in his graphic works, with no bones (pun intended) about it! The hard, cold truth of life is that male human beings are biologically programmed to lust after female human beings and what many regard as 'sexual perversions' are just different means of expressing this basic truth of existence. Of course those who hew strongly to various conservative religious codes have difficulty accepting their own 'animal sexuality', but for those who are not so constrained, just about anything is permissible in the sexual arena (short of cruelly & deliberately causing pain in others and engaging in clearly execrable practices such as pederasty). Crumb recognises this intellectual argument and give free vent to his own quite interesting (& natural) sexual hangups. Most entertaining and a very worthy addition to any collection of R. Crumb works! Published (and edited) in Germany and somewhat more difficult to find than other books dealing with this archetypal graphic artist.

This is the second volume in this series. I didn’t think the artist could top the first volume, but she has. This one has the techniques for coloring so many of the things we commonly see in adult coloring books. Learning from these pages will bring my coloring pages to a whole new level.The one thing I really love is that the artist gives us the Prismacolor pencil numbers with each step. She also has a graphic with Polychromos Vs Prismacolor colors. I really enjoy using her first guide so this is a must have companion. I’ve included a pic of some elements inside the book and will add pics of my efforts as I try the techniques. I can’t wait to dive into this one!

Just when you think you have learned how to color almost everything, Helen gives you more than you could have hoped for. This is truly a wonderful guide to help you learn techniques to make your Coloring top notch. There is so much to appreciate in both guides. You will find a couple of techniques that refer back to the 1st guide, but if your budget doesn't allow for you to purchase both you will still love this guide. I particularly love the different Skin Tones, along with how to color fabric. I love Clocks and there is a Vintage Clock in the Metal & Steampunk section. A nice selection of leaves that tend to be in a lot of Adult Coloring Books, beautiful Peacock Feathers, and feathers in general. My favorite is the beautiful Hummingbird as well as the Ladybug. If you like Skull and Crossbones, Cauldrons, Glass Bottles, Cogs, Marbles then you get it with this guide. Unicorn Horn, Onion Domes, Tera Cotta Pots, Apples, Strawberries, Ice Cream as well. This is just a small sampling. The list goes on and on. I learned from the 1st Guide to use tracing paper and go over the actual steps until I felt comfortable enough to actually use the Color Pages provided in the Guide. This guide has a Color Swatch for Prismacolor & Polychromos along with inspiration for color combinations. You definitely don't have to have the above mentioned. I use a mixture of Prismacolor, Crayola and other brands. The swatch is very nice and will help you get close to the colors if you want to use the particular suggested colors. This will make a wonderful gift for anyone that enjoys Coloring. I will be gifting this to some special people on my Holiday List. Great job Ms. Elliston. It has definitely been worth the wait. I am attaching 2 category pictures (there are many more) and will add pictures as I finish a technique. What a wonderful way to spend the cold days ahead. You can't go wrong with this guide. Ms. Elliston has an active Social Media Page and several of us have followed her journey in the creation of this book. She is a super lady and worked very hard to bring this Guide to Life. I Did Not receive this Guide at a discount. This is my true and honest opinion. I do believe in giving credit where it is due.

I was so enamoured with "Colorist 1" (ISBN: 978-1546646594), and encouraged by the reviews for this second book, that I immediately ordered Colorist's Special Effects Book 2.Upon receipt, I am sad to say that I cannot agree with previous reviewers who felt this second volume surpassed the authors first offering.In fact, I'm rather disappointed, particularly given the even higher price point.Yes, there are indeed many new object lessons, however the quality of the artwork is what I can't get past.The overall appearance lacks the professional quality of book one.While I have not counted them, the number of objects seems fewer, but larger. It is the very largeness which I find so unattractive. It's as if the objects were digitally enlarged (vs. simply drawn larger), leaving them grainier and less saturated with colour. (See my example - photo of page featuring pink "Shiny Wrapped Sweet/Candy).In fact, many of the objects appear to have been coloured with crayons on children's coloring book quality paper rather than with professional/artist's-level coloured pencils.The overall effect is noticeabley amateurish.Additionally, at this price point one would expect a much higher paper quality. This is just another "published on demand" title using what seems to be heavy weight copy paper.I have purchased other non-artsy books from same publisher on Amazon, and upon comparison, find the exact same paper in use for all titles.So while I'm sure I will still derive much enjoyment from my purchase, I'm just a tad disappointed with this sequel.A good, educational offering, with detailed technique instruction nonetheless.Thanks for reading,-CC, Amazon Prime Member-Reviewer

I'm a stick figure and "m" bird kind of girl who sticks mainly to coloring books, but I decided to give this book a go for the hell of it. I'm glad I did. I will soon be the barracks tattoo artist of the year. Disembodied legs, random household goods, donuts... you name it, I'll tattoo it.In all seriousness, great instructional book. I like how this guide (compared to the first one) gives you the colors to use.

The Colorist’s Special Effects 2 is a great addition for anyone wanting to continue enhancing their coloring skills.The second book, expands on techniques shown in the first book. I really like the addition of Prisma pencil color numbers. This is very helpful for a newbie like me. The addition of metallic, snow, sand and other common elements found in many color books is great.

What can I say that Suzie hasn’t already written. I am so in love with this book as I am in love with her first one also. These have two be my top two in all the books I have. She goes above and beyond to help teach you how to perfect your coloring.Helen this book tops your first and if you do a third book you have set the bar real high for yourself with a job well done and love the attention to details and the final product and love that you kept the French text like I said too bravo.I love your work Helen.

About the Author
Robert (Lynn) Asprin was born in 1946. While he has written some stand alone novels such as Cold Cash War, Tambu, The Bug Wars and also the Duncan and Mallory Illustrated stories, Bob is best known for his series: The Myth Adventures of Aahz and Skeeve; the Phule novels; and, more recently, the Time Scout novels written with Linda Evans. He also edited the groundbreaking Thieves World anthologies with Lynn Abbey. His most recent collaboration is License Invoked written with Jody Lynn Nye. It is set in the French Quarter, New Orleans where he currently lives.
